Asda introduces neonatal care leave to support staff with babies in neonatal care.
- Employees with infants needing neonatal care for 7+ days receive up to 12 weeks’ paid leave.
- Full pay available for each week under the new policy, extending beyond standard parental leave.
- Applicable to babies admitted within 28 days of birth, emphasizing Asda’s commitment to employee welfare.
- Part of broader efforts alongside new George clothing range for premature babies launching soon.
As of today, Asda employees who have newborns requiring neonatal care for a minimum of seven days are eligible for up to 12 weeks of paid leave. This new initiative is available in addition to the standard maternity, paternity, or adoption leave, showing a significant step in employee benefits.
Under the new policy, full contracted pay is provided for each week a baby stays in neonatal care. This applies to any baby admitted within the first 28 days of birth, marking a forward-thinking approach in supporting staff during challenging times.
Hayley Tatum, Asda’s chief people and corporate affairs officer, expressed her long-standing support for pregnancy and baby initiatives. “As a long-time supporter and board trustee of pregnancy and baby charity Tommy’s, I recognize that the birth of a child can be a stressful time for any parent,” Tatum said.
She acknowledged the unique challenges faced by families with babies in neonatal care and emphasized Asda’s commitment to ensuring colleague welfare. “Our priority is ensuring the wellbeing of all colleagues and making sure we’re offering our full support as they navigate their way through these challenges,” she added.
This policy is part of Asda’s broader efforts to support families, coinciding with the launch of the George premature baby clothing range. Scheduled to debut on World Premature Baby Day, this range will be available online and in select stores near neonatal hospital units.
Asda’s new policy aims to provide essential support for employees during difficult times.
