Nexer Digital has strategically partnered with Digital Advantage, a Manchester-based charity, to foster inclusivity within the tech industry. This collaborative effort aims to bridge the gap between education and employment for young individuals with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). By offering meaningful work placements, the partnership provides these students with practical knowledge and skills.
The initiative’s first success story is Ryan Hill, a 20-year-old, who began his placement this month. Working two days a week at Nexer Digital, Hill will gain invaluable hands-on experience in various disciplines such as user research, user experience design, software development, testing, and accessibility. This foundational experience is designed to prepare students for future careers in the digital industry.
In addition to work placements, Nexer Digital will also be delivering web accessibility and usability testing sessions at the Digital Independent Specialist College (DISC) in Manchester, which is operated by Digital Advantage. These sessions are aimed at equipping students with crucial skills required in the tech industry.
Ezra Rushen, Director of Training at Digital Advantage, expressed excitement about this innovative partnership. “We are incredibly excited to partner with Nexer on this innovative collaboration,” Rushen said. “By working with Nexer, our interns will gain invaluable hands-on experience and insight into the tech industry. This partnership will help us bridge the gap between education and employment, ensuring that our interns are well-prepared to thrive in an inclusive digital workforce.”
This initiative is embedded in Nexer Digital’s larger strategy to invest in equitable recruitment practices. Alongside the work placements, Nexer actively collaborates with organizations like Love Circular, Diverse & Equal, and Manchester Digital to promote boot camps, placements, and apprenticeships. Hilary Stephenson, Managing Director of Nexer Digital, emphasized their commitment to creating accessible and inclusive workplaces for young people with disabilities, which is a key aspect of shaping a diverse tech landscape.
Hilary Stephenson, Managing Director of Nexer Digital, highlighted the importance of inclusivity, stating: “As a Disability Confident Employer, we’re committed to creating accessible and inclusive workplaces, as well as helping shape a more equitable and diverse tech landscape.”
