In an innovative move, Urban Splash has introduced a creative regeneration campaign for Swansea, titled City on the Beach. This initiative, presented in both English and Welsh, aims to harmonize urban life with Swansea’s natural coastal beauty. The project is highlighted by a meticulously crafted sketchbook that outlines ambitious ideas for seven critical areas within Swansea.
Collaborating with Smiling Wolf, a creative consultant based in Liverpool, Urban Splash distributed this sketchbook to local stakeholders. Their approach includes unique creative assets such as dual-language pin badges, crafted from recycled materials, exemplifying a commitment to sustainability.
Jonathan Falkingham, co-founder of Urban Splash, expressed ambition for capturing potential partners’ attention through a visually stunning campaign. He emphasizes the creation of a seamless city-and-beach experience, aiming to stimulate conversations about the numerous sections of the city targeted for revitalization.
Simon Rhodes from Smiling Wolf applauded the vibrant branding choices, highlighting a diverse multi-colored palette representing Swansea’s varied landscapes. This initiative encourages residents to embrace the brand as part of the city’s identity, enriching its cultural tapestry.
Planning permission has been granted for the first phase of developing Swansea Central, which will feature a significant five-story public sector hub. This includes retail, dining, and office spaces, marking a significant enhancement to the city’s infrastructure.
The vision for Swansea Civic Centre is to transform it into a City Waterfront district, leveraging the picturesque five-mile beach to augment Swansea’s allure as a compelling destination for both visitors and locals.
Additional sites earmarked for development include the historic Hafod Copperworks, poised for heritage-led attractions, and St Thomas, planned as a green wildlife corridor complete with riverside homes. The innovative concepts extend to Salibridge, Oxford Street, and The Promenade, each offering unique residential and commercial opportunities.
Jonathan Falkingham articulates a long-term vision by positioning Urban Splash as a durable stakeholder committed to sustainable, engaging designs. This ethos underlines the intention to foster an ecosystem that values nature, culture, and community, promising a lasting transformation for Swansea.
Urban Splash’s regeneration efforts promise a modernized, vibrant Swansea, blending nature with urban living.
