Marks & Spencer (M&S), in collaboration with prominent suppliers, is set to donate 100,000 Christmas dinners to families in need this holiday season. This initiative is part of the King’s Coronation Food Project, which emphasizes community support and charitable donation.
M&S has partnered with key suppliers such as 2 Sisters Food Group (2SFG), Bernard Matthews, Valeo Foods Group, and Premier Foods. Their collective effort focuses on providing a substantial Christmas meal comprising 240,000 portions of vegetables, including roast potatoes, parsnips, Brussels sprouts, and cauliflower cheese. These goods are sourced from 2SFG’s Carlisle site.
Additionally, the donation will feature 100,000 servings of turkey crowns from Bernard Matthews. Enhancing the meal further, 1,800 pots of Bisto Turkey gravy granules will be included, courtesy of Premier Foods. Each family will also receive a Matthew Walker Christmas Pudding, a dessert produced by Valeo Foods Group.
All these items are scheduled to be collected by the food waste charity, FareShare, on December 20. Once gathered, the charity will distribute the meals across local charities in the UK, such as community centers, homelessness support groups, lunch clubs, and youth centers.
Alex Freudmann, M&S Food’s managing director, expressed his enthusiasm for the project: “At M&S we are committed to doing the right thing for the people and communities we serve. I’m delighted that this year, in partnership with our suppliers, we’re helping families in need by providing 100,000 Christmas dinners in time for the big day, through our ongoing work supporting FareShare.”
In a related effort earlier this year, M&S announced a plan to invest £1 million to donate over 1.5 million freshly prepared meals through FareShare, underscoring their dedication to addressing food insecurity during critical times.
The collaboration between M&S and its suppliers highlights a strong commitment to supporting families in need, ensuring they receive festive cheer this Christmas.
