Flipbook Studio, renowned for pioneering experiential entertainment, has launched a groundbreaking project at Chester Zoo. This endeavor follows the studio’s notable success at the Printworks in Manchester, which hosted Europe’s largest digital ceiling, marking another significant advancement in Flipbook’s trajectory in experiential technology.
At the heart of Chester Zoo’s Super-Natural Halloween event lies Flipbook’s original creation, an immersive experience entitled ‘BEASTS’. This multi-screen animation is complemented by immersive floor projections and stunning 360-degree visual displays. The eight-minute journey invites audiences into a fantastical realm teeming with mythical creatures. The experience is crafted under the creative direction of Dr. Jess French, a respected zoologist and author, and serves as a prelude to the renowned fantasy novel ‘Beastlands: Race to Frostfall Mountain’.
Flipbook Studio ingeniously designed three distinctive ecosystems, each inhabited by uniquely adapted mythical creatures, engrossing and captivating visitors of all ages. According to Andrew Lord, Flipbook’s director and co-founder, the aim was to create a fully engaging digital experience that seamlessly integrates storytelling with cutting-edge animation technology.
This immersive endeavor aligns with Chester Zoo’s mission to enhance the understanding of nature and conservation through engaging narratives. Helen Dean, head of marketing at Chester Zoo, emphasized the significance of the project in spotlighting crucial species often overlooked. By incorporating real species such as snakes, frogs, bugs, slugs, and moths into the ‘BEASTS’ narrative, visitors are not merely entertained but are also connected to the critical conservation efforts undertaken by the zoo.
Beyond ‘BEASTS’, the Super-Natural Halloween event at Chester Zoo offers a variety of Halloween-themed attractions, including interactive trails and impressive pumpkin sculptures. These family-friendly activities are accessible to visitors until November 3, 2024.
Flipbook Studio’s work at Chester Zoo exemplifies the power of innovative storytelling in fostering an appreciation for nature.
