In a significant development in the beauty industry, Lush has unveiled a new collection that draws inspiration from The Body Shop’s renowned product line. This initiative not only serves as a tribute to a bygone era but also highlights the enduring influence of iconic formulations once spearheaded in collaboration with Anita Roddick, The Body Shop’s esteemed founder.
The latest offerings by Lush include reimagined versions of celebrated vegan beauty products catering to hair, body, and skincare. Notable inclusions in this collection are updated adaptations of popular items like ginger shampoo, banana conditioner, hemp hand cream, and cocoa body butter. These products are available online and are set to be stocked in larger stores starting November, capturing the essence of The Body Shop’s acclaimed classics.
Mark Constantine, Lush’s founder, began his illustrious career in cosmetics by supplying to The Body Shop. Although both companies have long since parted ways in terms of business operations, the relationship between their founders, which included working on formulations that became The Body Shop’s best-sellers, remains noteworthy. This shared past is imbued in the new collection, providing a sense of nostalgia for products that were once trailblazers in the beauty landscape.
The unfolding of this collection’s release is timeliness, aligning with the recent acquisition of The Body Shop by Aurea, an investment firm headed by Mike Jatania. Under the leadership of Charles Denton, a former Molton Brown CEO, The Body Shop is undergoing a transformation, operating now with 133 stores—65 fewer than before its administrative challenges. This transition marks a new chapter for The Body Shop as it strives to revitalize the brand while retaining its core values.
Lush’s new collection serves as both a tribute to and a continuation of the shared history with The Body Shop.
