B&Q is joining forces with Neighbourly for their annual Community Days initiative.
- Each B&Q store in the UK and Ireland will engage in a local DIY project.
- Volunteer teams include store employees contributing significant labor and resources.
- Partnerships with Neighbourly since 2019 have supported over 2,000 community causes.
- B&Q’s Community Reuse program also donates surplus materials to local groups.
B&Q has announced its collaboration with Neighbourly to conduct their annual Community Days this autumn. This initiative sees each of the 311 B&Q stores across the UK and Ireland engage in significant DIY projects that benefit local charities. Each store is tasked with undertaking a project within its community, with teams comprised of store employees volunteering their time and skills. These projects range from renovating community centers to creating garden spaces, all aimed at enhancing facilities and supporting people in need.
In addition to manpower, B&Q has committed up to £1,000 of products per store to ensure these projects are not only impactful but also achieve a high standard of completion. The initiative reflects B&Q’s ongoing dedication to social responsibility and community engagement, allowing the company to connect with neighborhoods on a deeper level.
Since the onset of their partnership with Neighbourly in 2019, B&Q’s Community Days have reached over 2,000 good causes. Notably, the employees have dedicated more than 200 volunteering hours specifically with Blackpool & The Fylde Street Angels, a charity focused on aiding individuals facing homelessness, addiction, or exploitation. The continued support for such organizations underscores the impactful role B&Q plays within its community.
Richard Cooper, the store manager at B&Q Blackpool, expresses enthusiasm for these community projects, highlighting their ongoing work with Blackpool & Fylde Street Angels. For this year’s project, they’re set to renovate the supported housing block, Angels Rest, by revitalizing its communal areas. Cooper remarked, “The store team loves getting out into the community to give back and share some of our DIY skills.”
Apart from the hands-on volunteer work, B&Q also runs the Community Reuse program through Neighbourly. This program focuses on donating excess materials and products to local charities, community groups, and schools, thus minimizing waste while providing essential resources to those in need. To date, around 725 tonnes of surplus products have been distributed, showcasing B&Q’s commitment to sustainability and community support.
This collaboration exemplifies B&Q’s dedication to fostering community resilience through strategic partnerships and resource allocation.
