- This marks a continuation of prominent retail partnerships on the Coronation Street set.
A new Sainsbury’s Local and Argos store facade has been unveiled on the set of Coronation Street’s Victoria Street, making its debut on the British television soap. The store facade has remained concealed behind boardings since July, following an announcement earlier this year regarding a product placement partnership. From September 23rd, the facade will become operational on-screen, marking a significant integration into the show.
Sainsbury’s bags for life and other products will also be incorporated into the series, enhancing the realism of the shopping experience on the set. This move follows the renewal of Argos’ headline sponsorship of the show, underscoring the importance of strategic partnerships in British television.
Argos head of campaigns, Laura Boothby, expressed enthusiasm about the new development, stating: “We’re looking forward to watching the Coronation Street cast walk the legendary cobbles into our newest Sainsbury’s Local store.” She highlighted the anticipation among customers eager to see the new store, adding that favorite characters can now conveniently obtain groceries or Argos orders while on “The Street.”
ITV’s director of commercial sales and partnerships, Mark Trinder, noted the excitement surrounding the store’s debut, emphasizing the creative collaboration between brands involved. He stated that integrating the store into the famous cobbles was a culmination of extensive effort and innovation, reflecting Argos and Sainsbury’s ongoing support for the highly-watched soap.
Previously, other retailers have been part of Coronation Street’s high street, with Costa Coffee appearing in 2018, later replaced by an EE phone shop and subsequently by travel agent Hays. Most recently, March saw the news that the local Co-op, which had opened in 2018, was closing its doors. This trend of dynamic retail changes continues with the introduction of Sainsbury’s Local.
The new Sainsbury’s Local facade on Coronation Street signifies a strategic and dynamic collaboration within British television’s retail space.
