From September 18, Waitrose will enhance its No.1 range by introducing a premium selection of British Wagyu beef. This initiative is part of Waitrose’s strategy to offer top-notch products characterized by high-quality standards. Among the newly featured items are meatballs, sirloin steak, rump steak, ribeye steak, and burgers, all designed to cater to the growing demand for Wagyu beef.
Wagyu beef is renowned for its tender and flavorful qualities, determined by the Beef Marbling Scale (BMS), which assigns scores between zero and nine. Waitrose has announced that all of its Wagyu beef will boast a minimum BMS score of six, setting a benchmark for supermarkets. This high standard aims to ensure an exceptionally tender and flavorful consumer experience.
Significantly, all Wagyu beef offered by Waitrose originates from cattle sired by registered pedigree Wagyu bulls. This meticulous breeding process underlines Waitrose’s dedication to quality and ethical sourcing, reinforcing consumer trust in its premium products.
The Wagyu beef range is competitively priced between £4.70 and £14 and is initially offered at a 20% discount until October 23. This rollout represents not only an expansion of Waitrose’s No.1 range but also responds to increased consumer interest, with searches for Wagyu burgers on Waitrose.com more than doubling compared to the previous year.
This expansion is aligned with other recent enhancements to the No.1 range, following the relaunch of nearly 200 new and improved products in June. Waitrose has since expanded its confectionery selection and recently updated its Indian ready meal offerings, showcasing the retailer’s commitment to diverse and high-quality food choices. Further, Waitrose announced a £10 million price reduction on 250 products across its No.1 and Duchy Organic ranges.
The introduction of Wagyu beef signifies Waitrose’s strategic focus on premium quality in enhancing its product range.
