Fenwick has announced the appointment of retail industry veteran Nigel Blow as its new chief executive, effective October 2024. Blow will take over from John Edgar, who has been at the helm for almost five years, steering the company through various phases of strategic growth and adaptation.
Nigel Blow brings a wealth of experience to Fenwick, having served as CEO of Morleys Stores since 2019, after initially joining as a non-executive director in 2016. His comprehensive career also includes roles as managing director at Turnbull & Asser from 2013 to 2017 and chief executive positions at both Arnotts and Brown Thomas, two well-known Irish department store businesses.
This change in leadership is part of a broader reorganization of Fenwick’s executive team and management structure. Chair Sian Westerman explains that John Edgar’s departure is aligned with these overarching changes aimed at positioning Fenwick for future success. During his tenure, Edgar successfully navigated the business through the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic, expanded the company’s online presence, and enhanced its restaurant operations.
Edgar’s tenure is noted for significant developments in key stores, especially the masterplan project in Newcastle and improvements at the Kingston store. These strategic initiatives have been pivotal in reinforcing Fenwick’s market presence and operational capacity.
Acknowledging Edgar’s instrumental role, Westerman expressed appreciation for his efforts and wished him success in his future endeavors. The leadership transition reflects Fenwick’s commitment to evolving with the industry while maintaining continuity in its strategic objectives.
Nigel Blow’s appointment is a pivotal step in Fenwick’s ongoing evolution, underlining its commitment to strategic growth and innovation.
