The Love Paper campaign is taking a significant step forward with the introduction of Love Paper Week, a dedicated period to address and correct misconceptions regarding the sustainability of paper. This initiative is designed to collectively promote the positive environmental impact of paper, print, and paper packaging to both consumers and businesses. The global campaign seeks to highlight the renewable and recyclable nature of paper, stressing its role as a vital medium for creativity and expression in today’s digital age.
According to the 2023 Tracker Survey by Two Sides, a paper, print, and packaging industry initiative, a considerable 37% of European consumers incorrectly view paper and paper packaging as harmful to the environment. This misconception persists despite data showing that the paper recycling rate actually stands at 79%, the highest rate for any material in Europe, as reported by the Confederation of European Paper Industries (CEPI). Love Paper Week aims to bridge this knowledge gap and correct these misunderstandings, emphasizing the eco-friendly credentials of paper.
Josh Birch, campaign manager for Two Sides UK, encourages all stakeholders in the paper sector, from printers to packaging manufacturers, to participate actively in Love Paper Week. “Running from the 3rd-7th February, we encourage all printers, paper merchants, packaging manufacturers, and all those who operate within the sector to support Love Paper week and use the materials available to inform their clients, customers and consumers more widely, why paper is such a sustainable, effective and attractive medium,” he stated. The initiative aspires to expand its reach and significance yearly, aiming for widespread recognition and engagement across the industry.
In its inaugural year, Love Paper Week will feature modest activities, focusing on spreading awareness and educational efforts. The long-term goal is to grow the event into a renowned occasion celebrated by industry professionals, businesses, and the public alike. Enthusiasts and advocates of paper’s sustainability are encouraged to mobilize anyone involved with paper, including those in direct mail, print publishing, and packaging sectors, to partake in and advocate for this significant cause. The initiative seeks to inspire a collective celebration and acknowledgment of paper’s role as a sustainable resource.
By correcting misconceptions and promoting informed awareness, Love Paper Week aspires to shape a more sustainable future for paper industries.
