The innovative ‘data art’ platform Darta has been launched in Manchester, aiming to transform running data into unique art pieces. This platform allows family members, friends, and runners to celebrate achievements with contemporary AI-generated art that can be printed on various mediums.
Users can create these personalized art pieces in three simple steps: selecting a style, entering running and personal data, and choosing their preferred art form. Options include screen printed, pop cultured, or comedic styles, among others, offering a diverse range of artistic expressions.
Darta was conceptualized by Darren Hughes, a creative director with a passion for both running and technology. Hughes, known for his previous venture Withoomph, which he sold to Canva, saw an opportunity to fill a market gap with Darta.
Hughes explained, “I felt there was a gap in the market for a unique personalized celebration of running achievements. The medal has long been the favorite of awards, but we wanted to create something unique for each runner.” He emphasized the importance of storytelling in each runner’s journey and the potential for the art to inspire others to take up running.
The platform’s development, spanning three years, coincided with a rapid acceleration of AI technology. This alignment has allowed Darta to leverage advancements in visual content, resulting in improved art variety and quality.
