Factory International has joined forces with music legends Morrissey and Noel Gallagher to assist the financially troubled Salford Lads Club. The club, a longstanding Manchester community hub, is under threat of closure due to a significant funding gap of £250,000. The collaboration aims to secure the club’s future through collective efforts and resources.
The Salford Lads Club, known for its rich historical ties and cultural importance, has been a pillar for youth in the Ordsall area for more than a century. It has garnered celebrity support following an announcement of its financial struggles last month.
Through the Community Partnerships program, Factory International offers each partner organization £10,000, alongside tailored support. This backing is not just financial but includes infrastructure development, skill enhancement, and the initiation of new projects.
The partnership’s first-year activities were held at Aviva Studios, where community partners influenced various aspects of the studio’s offerings, from artistic programming to the design of public spaces. Through these sessions, a diverse range of local voices is represented in Factory International’s initiatives.
Notable partner organizations include REEL MCR, which is involved in social history documentation and community drama, Thrive Manchester, which conducts trauma-informed health workshops, and Patricroft CIC, which has secured funds for a park redevelopment following its collaboration with Factory International.
This initiative highlights a powerful collaboration aimed at preserving vital community resources in Manchester.
