The IPA Advertising Unlocked 2024 event sees 77 agencies nationwide roll out the welcome mat for teenagers eager to explore the world of advertising. This mass participation illustrates the industry’s commitment to nurturing fresh talent, particularly in regions beyond the capital. Nearly 2,000 students have the chance to interact with professionals, gaining firsthand insights into various advertising roles.
By focusing efforts on schools across 14 towns and cities in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales, the program aims to expose students to the array of opportunities available in advertising. Hosting agencies are providing experiences designed to educate and inspire upcoming talent through a series of thoughtfully crafted activities.
Since it started in 2017, the initiative has introduced over 12,000 young people to the advertising field. Activities range from hands-on sessions in constructing Christmas campaigns to engaging students in speed networking. Young participants are also involved in creating content, mastering animation, and learning how artificial intelligence can be utilized in the advertising sphere.
The importance of these activities is echoed by industry leaders. Josh Krichefski, President & CEO of GroupM EMEA, emphasizes how these events allow students to explore their future potential while contributing new perspectives to the agencies themselves. Will Nevill from The Gate points out the program’s effectiveness in demystifying the industry for newcomers who may otherwise be unaware of the diverse roles available.
This year, notable agencies such as dentsu Manchester, EssenceMediacom Leeds, and TBWAMedia Arts Lab are part of the program, underscoring the breadth of opportunity and professional guidance available to participating students. Each activity is meticulously planned to provide insights and inspire young minds to consider exciting futures in advertising.
The IPA Advertising Unlocked 2024 initiative effectively bridges the gap between education and industry by providing students with a unique glimpse into advertising careers.
