BBC Radio 2, known as the most-listened-to radio station in the UK, has revealed significant changes in its daily programming. Scott Mills will host the legendary Radio 2 Breakfast Show each weekday morning, moving on from his previous afternoon slot. His transition follows the announcement that Zoe Ball will be stepping down from the program after a six-year tenure.
Scott Mills expressed his excitement about taking over the Breakfast Show, stating, “Zoe and I have been such good friends now for over 25 years and have spent much of that time as part of the same radio family here at Radio 2 and also on Radio 1.” Mills regards this new position as a “lifelong dream come true.”
Zoe Ball reflected on her time working with Scott Mills and expressed her excitement for his new journey. She shared, “Breakfast has always been his dream, and what a year he’s had – from racing around the world to his beautiful wedding to Sam.”
Meanwhile, Trevor Nelson will take over the 2-4pm weekday afternoon slot previously held by Mills. Nelson, well-known for presenting Rhythm Nation, looks forward to bringing a “bit of soul” to his new show and continuing his popular segment, ‘Five Seconds to Name.’
DJ Spoony will extend his influence on Radio 2 with ‘The Good Grove,’ expanding from a weekly show to four nights a week. Additionally, Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s ‘Kitchen Disco’ will be extended to a two-hour segment on Friday nights.
These programming adjustments are part of Radio 2’s strategic initiative to refresh its lineup and launch new shows starting January 2025. The station intends to maintain its position as the leading broadcaster by continuously evolving its content and engaging its audience.
Radio 2’s strategic revamp signifies bold new directions while honoring its rich legacy in broadcasting.
