Andrew Staniland has been appointed as Morrisons’ new group trading director. His new role will commence in February 2025. This decision follows Staniland’s impactful four-year tenure at Iceland, where he rose from a trading director to a group trading director.
Initially, there was speculation that Staniland was headed to Asda, taking over from former commercial director Paul Gillow. However, Morrisons has now secured his expertise, marking this as a strategic win for their team.
Staniland’s career is fortified by his experience at notable retailers such as Waitrose and Aldi. Notably, this new role at Morrisons is not Staniland’s first association with the company; he previously excelled as a buyer and buying manager from 2012 to 2016.
Rami Baitiéh, CEO of Morrisons, expressed his enthusiasm for Staniland’s return, stating, “Andrew is an exceptional talent and I am very pleased to welcome him to Morrisons as the strengthening of our senior team continues.”
In addition to Staniland’s appointment, Morrisons is also repositioning their leadership team. James Badger, previously group commercial director, is moving to a new position as the group strategy and transformation director. Baitiéh acknowledged Badger’s contributions, emphasizing his continued importance to the company.
With Andrew Staniland assuming his role at Morrisons, the company is positioned to enhance its leadership and strategic direction.
