Majestic, the specialist wine retailer, has forecasted a significant increase in Champagne sales throughout December, projecting that a bottle will sell every five seconds. This prediction highlights a growing preference for exclusive brands like Boizel, Bouvet, and Cattier. Historically, November and December account for approximately 40% of the year’s total Champagne sales, reflecting strong consumer interest during the festive period.
While Champagne remains a centerpiece of holiday celebrations, Majestic is also observing a rising trend in other wine categories. The retailer foresees Rosé, English wines, orange wines, and wines from less traditional regions such as Greece, becoming popular among shoppers looking to diversify their festive drink selections. This year, Rosé is expected to experience its most robust sales, building on last year’s successful record.
English still wines are poised for notable growth, with a projected increase of 33% compared to last year’s figures during December. Meanwhile, Greek wines are anticipated to double in sales, showcasing an inclination towards unique wine selections. Furthermore, orange wine sales are on track to double, underscoring the evolving consumer palate eager for novel wine experiences.
To enhance customer experience and encourage exploration of diverse wine offerings, Majestic’s 212 stores across England, Scotland, Wales, and Jersey will host complimentary wine tastings every day leading up to Christmas. These events will feature expert advice from knowledgeable staff, aiming to empower customers to make informed and adventurous choices this holiday season.
Elizabeth Newman, Majestic’s chief commercial officer, emphasized the evolving tastes of consumers: “Champagne always flies off the shelves as shoppers celebrate in style with premium festive fizz, but we also think people will buy into less traditional categories throughout the holiday season.” She notes that wines from regions like Greece and Hungary, along with orange wines, are increasingly becoming favorites for those looking to surprise their guests with something different.
The upcoming festive season promises to be dynamic as Majestic meets changing consumer demands with diverse wine offerings.
