In a bold and brazen act, thieves broke into Batch LDN, a prominent East London-based tailor, escaping with an estimated £6,000 in merchandise. The incident took place at the company’s Spitalfields premise during the early hours of October 24, leaving the young business grappling with the aftermath.
The burglars, described by a spokeswoman for Batch LDN as ‘two men, one on a white bike and one on a Lime bike,’ gained access by smashing a window with two bricks. This act of vandalism not only led to the loss of almost all their AW24 wool herringbone suit collection but also inflicted property damage that the start-up now has to manage.
Batch LDN, founded in 2021 by Julian Osborne, has already faced the inherent challenges of a start-up trying to carve out a niche in the competitive tailoring industry. Osborne referred to the burglary as ‘just another day of typical start-up turbulence,’ signaling the resilience and determination to recover and continue their bespoke services.
Following the incident, the company has appealed to any witnesses who were in the vicinity of Commercial Street between 3 and 4 am on October 24. Such cooperation with local authorities could prove crucial in identifying and apprehending the perpetrators involved in this disruptive event.
The burglary at Batch LDN underscores the vulnerability of small businesses and the importance of community support in adversity.
