JD Sports Fashion Plc has announced that Suzi Williams will step down as chair of the Remuneration Committee on November 1, following a period of transformative changes in the group’s remuneration policies. Williams has led the committee since May 2022, during which she was instrumental in designing and implementing new governance structures aimed at enhancing shareholder support and normalizing remuneration practices.
Williams highlighted her expanding commitments as a key reason for her departure, acknowledging that the timing was opportune as her work in establishing a fresh approach to remuneration had reached fruition. “Having completed the foundational phase of remuneration governance change for the group, it is time to hand over to a new chair for the next chapter,” she stated.
Andy Higginson, the chair of JD Sports, expressed gratitude for Williams’ contributions, noting her role in rapidly normalizing remuneration policy and governance structures. He praised her efforts in improving shareholder relations, stating, “Suzi is a valued colleague and board member, and we are grateful for her contribution.”
Angela Luger, who joined the JD Sports board and the Remuneration Committee in June 2023, will take over as chair. Luger brings extensive experience, having previously chaired the remuneration committees at Manchester Airport Group and SCS.
Simultaneously, the leadership transition extends to the ESG committee, where Darren Shapland will replace Angela Luger as chair starting October 1. Shapland, who has been part of the board since June 2023, has actively contributed to the ESG committee since its inception.
This transition marks a pivotal moment in JD Sports’ governance as the company continues to refine its leadership strategies.
