Lidl has announced a substantial donation of £125,000 in grants aimed at supporting its charity partners in organizing festive events. This initiative is part of Lidl’s 2024 Christmas charity campaign, which seeks to bring joy and celebration to communities throughout the country. The funds will be used to purchase essential food and supplies, a much-needed resource as 91% of Lidl’s Toy Bank charity network indicate that financial support is crucial for hosting festive activities this year.
Participating charities are making extensive preparations, with 85% planning special gatherings for their communities. These celebrations are essential for many who might otherwise find it challenging to experience the joy of the Christmas season. The grants and additional support ensure that these events can proceed, providing spaces for communal celebration and connection.
Lidl’s in-store Christmas Toy Bank is also set to make a return this year, inviting customers to donate toys for children in need. As the need for toys remains high, with 97% of Lidl’s charity partners requiring toys for distribution, Lidl has set an ambitious goal to collect and donate over 100,000 toys throughout the holiday season.
Starting from November 1st, Lidl customers will be able to drop off new and unopened toys, games, books, puzzles, and art supplies at any Lidl store nationwide. These items are then distributed to children of all ages through Lidl’s extensive partner charity network, ensuring that festive cheer reaches a wider audience.
Ryan McDonnell, CEO of Lidl GB, emphasizes the company’s ethos of community support, highlighting that the festive season is a pivotal time to extend help. “Supporting local communities is at the heart of what we do. Together, with our customers, we’re following the festive tradition of helping others through our Toy Bank and festive grants,” he states.
The partnership with Neighbourly further strengthens these efforts. Neighbourly CEO Steve Butterworth notes the success of the Toy Bank in past years and the delight it has brought to numerous families. He expresses optimism about continuing the partnership and expanding support beyond Christmas.
Lidl is also looking to the future, encouraging more local charities to connect with its Neighbourly partnership for continued support, including its ongoing food donation program. Since 2017, Lidl’s initiative has successfully donated the equivalent of 26.5 million meals, and the commitment remains strong for the year 2025.
Lidl’s charitable initiatives underline its commitment to community well-being and festive generosity.
