Majestic, a leading wine retailer, has partnered with fintech charity Pennies to allow customers to contribute to charitable causes easily. By rounding up their purchases to the nearest pound at checkout, customers can make small but meaningful donations.
Available across all Majestic locations in England, Scotland, Wales, and Jersey, the initiative supports the Majestic Charitable Foundation. This foundation, established earlier this year, targets causes that resonate with the retailer’s employees. It currently collaborates with national charities such as The Brain Tumour Charity, Campaign Against Living Miserably, and Child Bereavement UK, which were nominated by the staff.
In Jersey, customer donations aid Jersey Cancer Relief, aligning with the needs of the local community. Majestic is committed to expanding its support to smaller, local charities within the 212 communities its stores serve as the Foundation grows.
During a brief trial phase earlier this year at 10 stores, this donation model successfully generated nearly £1,000. Inspired by this, Majestic is ambitiously aiming for these efforts to yield a six-figure annual contribution to the Foundation.
According to Majestic Chief Financial Officer Alex Jablonowski, ‘We wanted to make it quick and easy for our customers to contribute to our fundraising efforts, and Pennies have helped us deliver a simple solution to “micro-donate” at the point of payment.’ Jablonowski emphasizes the importance of these contributions, especially during the holiday season when charities heavily rely on consumer generosity.
