The Footage, a well-known pub located at Grosvenor Street and Oxford Road in Manchester, is undergoing a major transformation after its unexpected closure in May. Known for its popularity among students of Manchester Metropolitan University and the University of Manchester, the pub is set to reopen next month under a new name, The Grosvenor.
This historic venue, originally built as The Grosvenor Picture Palace in 1912, was once the largest cinema outside London. Managed by Index Investments, the property will now see a new lease on life under the management of Blind Tiger Inns, which operates other well-known establishments like The Chestergate and The Trafford.
The refurbishment, estimated at £1 million, aims to create the ‘ultimate adult escapism experience.’ The interior boasts ‘outrageous’ designs, large sports screens, a photobooth, and an actual slide allowing patrons to glide past the old cinema balcony. Further features include 30 beer taps and recreational activities like pool, beer pong, and darts.
Entertainment will play a significant role in the revamped pub. Live sports will be broadcast throughout the week, and the original stage will be used for various live events such as club and quiz nights, music, and DJ sessions. This blend of offerings aims to establish the pub as a multifaceted venue for the city.
Complementing the entertainment, The Grosvenor will introduce a new food menu designed to pair with its drink offerings. Craft beers, alcohol-free drinks, cocktails, and premium spirits will be available alongside loaded pizzas, stacked burgers, sharing platters, and buckets of wings.
Chris Tulloch, Managing Director of Blind Tiger Inns, expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating, “The Grosvenor is in the midst of an incredible transformation, and we’re creating something truly special for Manchester. Our vision is to blend the best aspects of a sports bar, social venue, and nightclub into one vibrant, unforgettable space where memories are made.”
The pub’s operating hours are set to be from noon to midnight on weekdays, extending to 2 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. This extended schedule will cater to a diverse audience seeking social engagement in the city.
The transformation of The Footage into The Grosvenor exemplifies a substantial investment in Manchester’s nightlife scene, promising a unique experience for patrons.
