Spar has announced the appointment of Michael Fletcher as its new managing director in the UK. Fletcher brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously served as the CEO of Nisa Wholesale. His career includes significant positions such as chief commercial officer at The Co-op, and over two decades at Tesco in various commercial roles across the UK, Ireland, and Asia.
Nick Bunker, representing Spar Food Distributors, expressed confidence in Fletcher’s ability to enhance the company’s performance. Bunker noted Fletcher’s “outstanding credentials in commercial, retail, and FMCG sectors,” highlighting his experience in different trading environments as a driving factor for Spar’s decision.
Fletcher himself shared his enthusiasm about joining Spar, acknowledging the brand’s global recognition and expressing his eagerness to aid in the strengthening and development of Spar’s market proposition within the UK.
This strategic appointment comes on the heels of other leadership changes within the organization. Over the summer, Dominic Hall, also based in the UK, was appointed as president of Spar International, marking the first time a UK representative has held this position.
Michael Fletcher’s appointment is a strategic move poised to strengthen Spar’s foothold in the UK market.
