Allan Winstanley is set to begin his role as the CEO of Morleys Stores in January 2025, following the resignation of Nigel Blow in July. His appointment marks a new chapter for the independent department store chain, which includes eight stores, seven of which are located in and around Greater London.
Nigel Blow, who led Morleys for eight years, recently had his top executive position at Fenwick withdrawn unexpectedly. Blow expressed his surprise at the retraction, saying that the role was revoked just two weeks before he was scheduled to start, despite having prepared extensively for the transition.
Winstanley brings significant experience to Morleys, having played pivotal roles in various respected retail companies. Prior to joining Morleys, he returned to the UK from Australia, where he co-led the successful turnaround of Myer department stores. His career also includes senior positions at Sears in the US, the Dutch retailer De Bijenkorf, and ten years with House of Fraser in the UK.
His journey in the retail industry began with Marks & Spencer on the British high street, and he has also served on the boards of The British Fashion Council and The UK Fragrance Foundation. This diverse background in both domestic and international markets positions him as a strong leader for Morleys.
The transition in leadership at Morleys comes at a time when the retail landscape is evolving, and Winstanley’s expertise is expected to guide the chain through these changes, ensuring continued success and stability.
Allan Winstanley’s appointment as CEO marks a promising new chapter for Morleys amidst a changing retail environment.
