Ocado Retail marks its fifth year working alongside the London-based charity, The Felix Project, by providing over 73,380 meals to support families facing hardships this Christmas. This generous act significantly surpasses their initial goal of 45,000 meals, representing an impressive 64% increase in assistance. The initiative was linked to the sale of chocolate advent calendars, each contributing one meal to this cause.
The partnership with The Felix Project has been fruitful, culminating in a total contribution of £2.9 million since its inception. This ongoing collaboration not only seeks to alleviate hunger but also aims to tackle food waste by redistributing unsellable food items to benefit those in need. Ocado highlights its commitment to these values by directing £1.5 million towards projects like ‘Farm to Freezer’, which focuses on extending the usability of surplus farm produce through methods such as juicing, chopping, and freezing.
During this festive period, Ocado is delivering over 3,000 Christmas bundles at 13 Community Shop locations across the UK in partnership with another retailer. These bundles include essential festive items such as beef joints and chocolate coins, along with vouchers, bringing some holiday spirit to communities nationwide.
Jonathan Wiseman, the General Counsel and Chief People Officer at Ocado Retail, expresses pride in this partnership: “Our ongoing work with The Felix Project helps deliver food to families in need that would otherwise go to waste, creating nutritious and comforting meals.” He adds that the support from their customers has been instrumental in achieving this year’s remarkable donation figure. Such efforts underscore the importance of community support and collaborative action in addressing food insecurity.
Ocado’s continued partnership with The Felix Project exemplifies the power of community-driven initiatives in providing essential support to those in need.
