Sergio Rossi, a prestigious name in the sphere of Italian luxury footwear, has turned a new leaf by naming Paul Andrew as its creative director. This move marks a significant moment in the brand’s history, as Andrew comes with a rich legacy of innovative design and leadership.
Paul Andrew’s foray into fashion began at the Berkshire College of Art and Design, where he studied ready-to-wear and footwear design. His debut at London’s Graduate Fashion Week in 1999 laid the foundation for his remarkable journey in the fashion industry. In 2013, Andrew launched his own footwear brand, receiving the prestigious $300,000 main prize from the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) and Vogue Fashion Fund the following year, an accolade marking his exceptional talent.
His tenure at Salvatore Ferragamo began in 2016, where he initially held the role of design director for women’s shoes. His adeptness in design and leadership led to his promotion in 2017 to the position of creative director for womenswear, and subsequently in 2019, to the creative director for all product categories. Notably, he filled a position that had been vacant since Salvatore Ferragamo himself led the brand until his passing in 1960. Andrew’s exit from Ferragamo in 2022 allowed him to refocus on his brand, handing over the reins to Maximilian Davis.
Andrew expressed his enthusiasm about joining Sergio Rossi, highlighting the brand’s historic resonance and dedication to Italian craftsmanship. “I am honoured and delighted to join Sergio Rossi as Creative Director, a world-renowned house of shoemaking whose roots and legacy speak to the lasting power of Italian savoir-faire.” His vision for Sergio Rossi involves nurturing its legacy while propelling it forward with inventive designs.
Helen Wright, appointed as CEO of Sergio Rossi in December 2023, shared her optimism about Andrew’s appointment. She praised him as a remarkable talent whose inventive approach and technical expertise are expected to energize Sergio Rossi’s renowned craftsmanship. Wright emphasized that Andrew, with his deep respect for the brand’s heritage and ability to captivate contemporary audiences, is poised to make significant contributions to Sergio Rossi’s future.
Lanvin Group, Sergio Rossi’s parent company, reported a modest revenue increase of 1% in 2023, underscoring the company’s resilience and potential for growth in the competitive luxury market. Andrew’s appointment is seen as a strategic effort to enhance Sergio Rossi’s brand identity and market reach.
Paul Andrew’s appointment signals a promising era of innovation and heritage at Sergio Rossi.
