Uniqlo, the Japanese fashion retailer, has announced its first store opening in Liverpool, marking a significant step in its UK expansion. The store will occupy a prominent space in Liverpool One shopping center, known for its diverse range of retail options. This new location replaces the former Tessuti store, which closed after being under Frasers Group’s ownership for 18 months. Uniqlo’s decision to set up in this vibrant shopping area highlights its commitment to integrating into the UK’s dynamic retail landscape.
Planned to debut next spring, the Liverpool store will cover over 15,000 square feet and span two floors, providing ample space to showcase Uniqlo’s extensive range of apparel. This opening is part of Uniqlo’s substantial growth plan which includes launching ten new stores across Europe, including the UK, Italy, and France, in 2024, followed by additional expansions in 2025 and 2026.
Alessandro Dudech, Uniqlo’s UK Chief Operating Officer, emphasized the strategic importance of this expansion, stating that selecting Liverpool, a renowned shopping hub, was an obvious choice for hosting their brand. According to Dudech, “Investing in Liverpool, a leading UK shopping destination, was a natural next step, and Liverpool One was the obvious choice, given the unique opportunity to open a prominent, showstopping space on Paradise Street.”
The introduction of Uniqlo in Liverpool is also a significant gain for the retail environment in the area, according to Rob Deacon, director of asset management at Grosvenor, the entity managing Liverpool One. Deacon remarked on the strategic move, highlighting Liverpool’s role in fostering a hub of international brands and enhancing the overall shopping experience. “Uniqlo is yet another international fashion powerhouse taking a showcase space on Liverpool One’s Paradise Street,” he noted, reinforcing the area’s status as a destination for best-in-class brands.
Uniqlo’s Liverpool store opening signifies a strategic enhancement of its UK presence, tapping into the city’s vibrant retail market.
