Waitrose has made a significant move to enhance its premium ready meal offerings by launching seven new additions to its No.1 Indian range. This expansion includes a variety of main meals such as Ruby Chicken Masala, Slow Cooked Beef Madras, and Keralan Fish Curry. Additionally, consumers can now enjoy sides and snacks like Gunpowder Potatoes, Slow Cooked Black Dal, Jewelled Pilau Rice, and Chicken Tikka Samosa accompanied by a tamarind and date dip.
The decision to expand the menu comes in response to a notable increase in consumer interest. Searches on Waitrose’s website for terms like ‘Indian meal for two’ and ‘Indian food’ have surged by 315% and 69%, respectively, compared to previous months. This heightened interest is mirrored on social media, where platforms such as TikTok have seen searches for ‘Indian curry’ rise by 60%, alongside a 91% increase for ‘comfort meals’ related inquiries.
In a statement, Waitrose product developer Manisha Kotecha highlighted the motivation behind the launch, stating that the new premium range is crafted to deliver gourmet-quality meals that reflect authentic flavors. “Our products are made with quality ingredients and spices, focusing on taste and authenticity with every dish,” she noted. Waitrose aims to cater to the growing appetite for gourmet ready meals that offer convenience without compromising on taste.
This initiative is part of a broader strategy by Waitrose, which in June revamped its No.1 range to include nearly 200 new and enhanced products across various categories, including ready meals, dips, pasta & sauces, and more. This push to continuously innovate and expand is clearly visible, as seen also in its recent augmentation of the confectionery lineup, which now hosts an array of new chocolates and sweets.
Waitrose’s expansion of its No.1 Indian ready meal range reflects both consumer demand for diverse culinary experiences and the company’s commitment to quality and innovation.
