Waitrose has strategically partnered with Just Eat, intending to broaden its influence in the burgeoning on-demand grocery and convenience market. This multi-year collaboration enables customers to order groceries from 229 Waitrose locations, including major cities like Birmingham, Glasgow, London, Manchester, and Stirling. This initiative aligns with the growing demand for rapid delivery services, where Just Eat facilitates orders to be delivered within 30 minutes or less.
The demand for Waitrose’s on-demand groceries has witnessed a staggering increase, with average weekly sales leaping by 140% at the beginning of the year. Over a million British consumers now routinely use Just Eat for their grocery needs, which last year translated into the network executing 12 grocery deliveries every minute.
Customers accessing the Just Eat platform can select from a wide assortment of Waitrose products, including their premium No.1 range and the value-oriented Essential range. Later in the year, an additional array of 550 Christmas products will be available, featuring 175 new offerings for 2024.
James Bailey, Waitrose’s Executive Director, remarked on the venture’s potential, highlighting the evolving expectations around convenience and quality in food services. According to Bailey, partnering with Just Eat is a strategic step to meet these demands while maintaining high ethical standards.
Claire Pointon, Just Eat’s Managing Director for the UK and Ireland, supported this direction by noting the shift in consumer attitude, where speed is no longer a bonus but a necessity. Research by Just Eat suggests that three out of four customers foresee on-demand groceries becoming an integral part of their routine.
Waitrose and Just Eat’s partnership marks a significant advancement in the on-demand grocery sector, reflecting the evolving consumer landscape.
