Fashion giant Zara is set to enhance its retail footprint in Glasgow with a new flagship store at the Silverburn shopping center. This strategic expansion occupies a significant area of 47,000 square feet over two floors, taking over part of the former Debenhams site. This move signifies a relocation from its current premises within the center.
The lease agreement for Zara’s new location spans an impressive 15 years, marking the brand as a cornerstone tenant in the recently reconfigured commercial space. The former Debenhams, which shuttered in 2020 due to the company’s collapse into administration, has been divided into three sections, with ongoing talks to fill the remaining spaces with other retailers.
The fresh Zara store is expected to open its doors later this year, introducing a design akin to the retailer’s other major outlets, such as those located at London’s Battersea Power Station. This new site will feature convenient options for customers, including the ability to collect online orders, seamlessly blending the brand’s physical and digital retail strategies.
This development is a direct response to the acquisition of the Silverburn center by Henderson Park, in partnership with Eurofund Group, for £140 million in 2022. Christophe Kuhbier, head of investments of Europe at Henderson Park, emphasized the importance of this expansion as a reflection of the future of physical retail, describing it as “a striking, experiential flagship that complements a successful brand’s omnichannel offering.”
Alberto Esguevillas, CEO of UK Retail at Eurofund Group, expressed enthusiasm about the upscale transformation, stating: “We decided the best option was to deliver three new high-quality anchor units that will appeal to leading international brands and diversify the offer for Silverburn’s customer. We are delighted to have secured a new flagship Zara for the space, which will be one of their largest stores in Scotland.”
Zara’s new store in Silverburn signifies an important milestone in the retailer’s strategic growth within Scotland.
