The Goldworks, a new co-working space in Ebbw Vale, was officially launched with a substantial £7 million investment from the Welsh Government. This new facility is a part of the larger £100 million Tech Valleys initiative, aimed at advancing technological innovation and supporting the local economy. The project was implemented by Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council, with the internal fit-out funded by the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund.
The building spans more than 10,440 square feet and offers a variety of work environments for freelancers, company founders, and remote workers. In addition to small to medium-sized offices, the Goldworks includes co-working spaces and several meeting suites. This diverse range of spaces is designed to accommodate the varying needs of modern professionals and businesses.
Operated by the council’s business and innovation enterprise team, the Goldworks provides tenants and members with extensive support services. Through a partnership with Town Square Space (TownSq), the facility offers one-to-one support, mentoring, business workshops, and a variety of networking events. Additionally, as an official TownSq associate space, members gain access to startup and accelerator programs, enhancing their opportunities for growth and development.
John Morgan, a cabinet member for economic development and regeneration at Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council, emphasized the quality and value of the facility, stating, “Our business and innovation team have ensured the facility will offer the best quality and value to any business looking for a space to work from, use and grow. It will dovetail with our other property and business support initiatives services that the team offers.”
TownSq, which has been instrumental in the development and operational support of the Goldworks, has a history of aiding thousands of small businesses. Gareth Jones, co-founder and chief executive of TownSq, noted the collaborative effort in creating the space, “Increasingly we are working with partners to help them create spaces built on the lessons and experiences of our team over the last 13 years, and Goldworks is a great example of this – our latest associate space.”
This venture highlights the commitment of Blaenau Gwent to fostering a supportive business environment in the region, particularly for startups and freelancers. The introduction of such a facility is expected to bring together ambitious entrepreneurs and businesses, providing a platform for sharing insights and collaboration.
The Goldworks exemplifies a strategic effort to bolster regional economic growth by creating a supportive environment for innovation and collaboration.
