- A second phase includes a large gym and other facilities.
- JD Group already employs around 1,300 people on the current site.
JD Group, the well-known sportswear and leisure company, is moving forward with the construction of its new campus near Bury. The project, approved last year, is set to establish a headquarters that can compete with global tech leaders such as Facebook, Google, and Nike. Planned to accommodate 2,000 employees, the site will also feature a crèche with a capacity for 120 children. The significance of this development is not lost on the company, as it has been described as ‘a pinnacle moment in our company’s history.’
The enterprise is channeling significant investment into the Pilsworth Road campus, striving to create an environment that not only attracts but retains top industry talent. This is a strategic move that stands to align their facilities with those available at renowned global brands. The Manchester Evening News reports that JD Group has outlined plans for the subsequent phase of the project, including a fitness hub.
A design and access statement to Bury Council has detailed the upcoming phase further. It specifies that the current headquarters operates from three separate buildings on the Pilsworth Road site, employing approximately 1,300 people, thus marking the company as one of Bury’s largest employers. The refurbishment efforts are well underway, aiming to contemporize the office spaces.
The goal is to unify the separate elements of the existing campus into a centralized point, ensuring the development is contextually coherent with both the broader campus plan and its external surroundings. The forthcoming hub will feature an atrium linking two wings through a glass facade, complemented by a bridge facilitating movement across the atrium.
The new structure sits on what was once an industrial zone known as ‘A-Plant,’ located to the west of the original JD facility, offering vistas of Hollins Vale Nature Reserve. The endeavor presents a unique opportunity to complete and enhance the campus layout.
JD Group’s new headquarters near Bury signifies a major leap in their growth, aligning them with global industry leaders.
