- Local approval paves the way for the store to offer 111 parking spaces and cater to a wide range of customers.
- The development is expected to create up to 40 jobs, boosting local employment opportunities.
In a strategic move to expand its footprint in the UK, Lidl has received approval to open a new supermarket in Oldham. The store will be constructed off Albert Road in Hollinwood, close to the M60 and Oldham Road. This location is expected to provide convenient access for a significant number of local residents, contributing to Oldham’s economic landscape.
A key feature of the new development is its substantial size. Originally planned for a 500 square meter space, the store will now offer a retail area of over 1,300 square meters within a total site covering almost 2,000 square meters. This expansion underscores Lidl’s commitment to providing comprehensive shopping options to its customers.
In addition to its impressive size, the new Lidl supermarket will offer 111 parking spaces. This includes dedicated areas for parents with children, disabled bays, and electric charging ports, indicating a focus on inclusivity and environmental responsibility.
The operating hours of the supermarket will range from 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM from Monday to Saturday, including Bank Holidays, and from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM on Sundays. Such extensive hours are likely to meet diverse consumer needs, enhancing the shopping experience.
Represented by Joshua Ambrus from Rapleys, Lidl presented the project as a ‘significant investment’ in the Oldham area. The development is projected to generate up to 40 jobs, highlighting Lidl’s commitment to local economic growth. According to the Manchester Evening News, the company plans to offer competitive entry-level wages starting at £11.40 per hour.
Furthermore, the new supermarket is set to inject competition into the local retail market, directly competing with nearby Morrisons, Asda, and BBM Supermarket, all within a short driving distance. This competition is anticipated to provide consumers with more choices and potentially better prices, benefiting the broader community.
Councillor Brian Holbin expressed optimism about the new development, emphasizing the positive impact it is expected to have on the area: ‘It’s great that we’ve got somebody coming in and investing money in the area and hopefully jobs.’ His remarks reflect the local council’s supportive stance towards the project.
Lidl’s new supermarket in Oldham represents a strategic investment that promises to invigorate the local economy and enhance consumer choice.
