Super Evil Megacorp has released new downloadable content for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate, introducing the assassin mutant fox Alopex as a playable character. The Hades-inspired roguelike received its first DLC of 2025 today, expanding the roster of fighters available in the Switch title that launched in 2024. The developer has confirmed additional content updates are planned throughout 2026.
The paid DLC adds Alopex as the newest playable fighter, featuring close-range combat with her kama main weapon and explosive kunai for ranged attacks. According to the developer, the character offers nimble gameplay focused on agility and quick strikes. The expansion also introduces five new artifacts that modify gameplay runs with various effects.
New Artifacts Enhance Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Splintered Fate Gameplay
The downloadable content includes five artifacts that add strategic depth to player runs. The Polar Bear Netsuke triggers flame attacks every ten seconds, while the Maltese Hamster and Channel Six Mini Camera modify tool and special ability behavior by reducing charge speed in exchange for increased damage output. Hot Cocoa with Marshmallows reduces dash availability but grants movement speed bursts, and Buddy the Wraith provides an allied companion that evolves during gameplay.
Additionally, Super Evil Megacorp released a free update alongside the paid DLC. The complementary patch introduces four new Pepper Runs to Arcade Mode, described as challenging additions to the existing gameplay modes. A Ninja Ranks prestige system has also been implemented, offering long-term progression for dedicated players.
Free Update Expands Core Content
The free update extends beyond new modes, adding combat rooms to the main campaign across four locations. According to the developer, the Sewers, Docks, Streets, and Rooftops areas now feature additional encounters. The patch also implements balance adjustments across various gameplay elements.
However, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate has struggled to escape comparisons to Supergiant Games’ acclaimed roguelike. Nintendo Life’s review noted that despite the strength of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles intellectual property and cooperative gameplay features, the title falls short of matching its inspiration. The review indicated the game consistently feels overshadowed by Hades’ legacy.
Meanwhile, the ongoing support demonstrates Super Evil Megacorp’s commitment to expanding the roguelike experience. The developer has previously added new fighters and game modes since the 2024 launch, building on the foundation established at release. The studio’s roadmap extends into 2026, suggesting sustained development efforts.
Developer Maintains Post-Launch Support Strategy
In contrast to games that receive minimal updates after launch, Splintered Fate continues receiving regular content additions. The combination of paid character expansions and free gameplay enhancements follows common live-service patterns in modern gaming. This approach aims to retain player engagement while generating additional revenue through optional purchases.
The Alopex DLC represents the latest effort to distinguish Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate within the competitive roguelike genre. By leveraging the established franchise’s characters and mythology, the developer expands the playable roster beyond the core four turtles. The assassin mutant fox character draws from the broader Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles universe that extends beyond the main heroes.
Furthermore, the artifact system introduced in this expansion adds layers of strategic customization. Players can now modify their runs with gameplay-altering effects that change how abilities function and introduce new mechanics like the evolving ally system. These additions address depth concerns that may have limited the title’s initial reception.
The developer has not specified exact release dates for the planned 2026 content updates. Players can access the Alopex DLC and accompanying free update immediately on Nintendo Switch, though pricing details were not disclosed in the announcement. Future expansions remain unconfirmed regarding specific characters, modes, or features.
